CL-free certification
German goat owners have taken the initiative to participate in GD's CL monitoring programme. The status of certain sheep and goat diseases is not monitored consistently across the European Union. This makes it nigh on impossible to visit exhibitions or trade animals. A prime example of this is CL (Caseous lymphadenitis), an illness affecting goats. This non-treatable illness - which also qualifies as a zoonose - receives little attention in some countries, while in the Netherlands a CL monitoring programme has been up and running for years.
