GD Animal Health Service together with the Exotic and Extremely Dangerous Disease section of the national veterinary Service of Bulgaria have started a project to improve the national reference laboratory.

The main activities of the project are the training of laboratory personnel in modern diagnostic techniques of Classical Swine fever and High Pathogenic Avian Influenza. In addition, GD will assist with the further development of the ISO 17025 quality system.

The Bulgarian Laboratory is a modern well equipped laboratory that already has been ISO 17025 accredited. Assistance therefore will focus on PCR and Cell culture techniques. Since a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is an important tool in a quality system, GD experts will also assist with the further implementation and improvement of the current LIMS. The project is further supported by the experts of the Central Veterinary Institute of the Netherlands.
