Always a trendsetter
Translating animal health expertise into daily practice – that's what GD does best. Stolp considers it his key task to ensure that GD provides products and services that enable veterinarians and farmers to boost their operational results. The Netherlands has a strong reputation and a long tradition in agriculture and farming. This reputation must be upheld and, where possible, reinforced. “GD plays a key role in maintaining and strengthening this reputation. It’s a role we will only continue to fulfil if we keep abreast of developments across the globe”, according to Stolp.
Ruurd Stolp considers GD a fascinating organization. “The company has a rich past and many opportunities for the future. In recent years, GD has undergone many changes, enabling it to stay at the forefront of developments in the sector”, said Stolp. It was, is and will continue to be important to demonstrate to farmers, the industry and government what GD has to offer them. “And that is, in my opinion, the challenge facing GD today: to ensure that we provide a valuable contribution in tomorrow’s world, thereby securing our position in it.”
Ruurd Stolp studied Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University, graduating in 1980. He worked at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine until late 1983 and then worked as a practician at the NOP. He earned his doctorate in 1985. From 1987, Stolp filled various posts at Intervet: from 1997, he was an executive director; was President of Intervet International from 2002 to late 2007; and then President of Intervet Schering-Plough Animal Health until the end of 2008.
