Health programmes

One of the main activities of GD Animal Health Service is developing and implementing health programmes. GD’s health programmes enable livestock farmers to improve or control the health of their animals at herd level. That means not only greater job satisfaction, but also higher profits due to less work, less treatment and less medication.

GD has set up numerous programmes to ensure the health and sustainability of the Dutch livestock farming sector and commercial parties. GD monitors many common diseases and initiates programmes to eliminate various ailments.

On-farm monitoring
One way to monitor animal health is monitoring at farm level. Such programmes provide participating farmers with a great deal of information about the health of their animals. The goal of the programme is discussed with the sponsor: a slaughterhouse, for example, might have other goals than farmers themselves or a breeding organization. And it is also important to know whether the ultimate goal is eradication or monitoring. The programme is then developed and discussed with the customer based on this information.
GD combines laboratory research with veterinary advice and also logistical support. If requested, we also provide extended veterinary services – such as advising farmers on biosecurity or diseases.
